They could have been sticks of many lengths, flat stones with different things painted on each side, or some kind of dice. How it was truly done is unknown. Flipping a coin is most likely the closest practice we have today. Bring a handful of flat stones to class. Paint circle's on one side and x's on the other side of the stones. Pick one person to be represented by the circle's and one to be represented by the x's. Toss the stone and see who has the most, circles or x's. That person wins.
